Work highlights

Bishop’s Stortford College

In 2023 I managed the re-design of Bishop’s Stortford College’s annual alumni magazine, now titled Old Stortfordian.

Working closely with the school’s Development Office and other staff, I finalised the content plan, developed a publication schedule, drafted and edited content, liaised with contributors and collaborated with the designer and printing house on the new look of the magazine.

SN Lloyd, author

Sara’s debut book Stitches and Scales is a wholesome YA fantasy novel comprising magic called Stitching, high stakes adventure and romance.

When editing for Sara, I greatly enjoyed diving into the world of Stitching and getting to know Fellen Waterford, a sympathetic protagonist with a secret, and the other employees working for enigmatic Evander’s Aquarium of Magical Creatures.

DJ Bowman-Smith, author

The Mid Witch and Mid Witch Two were editing highlights of the past couple of years. DJ’s style is witty and down to earth, and I’m eagerly anticipating the third book.

This Mid Witch series is a funny and poignant take on midlife with a pinch of spice, a touch of magic and a relatable older heroine to root for.

Tiger Molly, author

Author, illustrator and former part-time primary school teacher Tiger Molly has a knack for creating memorable characters.

Her Sophie Line series offers light humour and intrigue as the quirky primary school protagonist Sophie, who can turn into a cat, uncovers and solves local mysteries with her best friend, Alex.

Mark Wells, author

I have been proof editing for author Mark Wells since 2019 and have worked with him both on his Cambridge Gothic trilogy* and on the immersive family adventure book Riddle of the White Sphinx for the Hidden Tales project.

*College of Shadows, Gate of Shadows and Legacy of Shadows, a YA urban fantasy series set in Cambridge (‘home to the brightest minds… and the deadliest monsters’).

Christ’s College, Cambridge

With a quick two-month turnaround, I acted as Editor for the 2024 Lent term issue of Christ’s Pieces, the sixteen-page alumni magazine for Christ’s College, Cambridge.

I managed the project from the content planning stage through commissioning, editing, proofreading and sending it to the printing house.

JH Mann, author

In 2023 I had the pleasure of editing The Echoing Shore by award-winning journalist and writer, JH Mann. Get a copy from Amazon and follow the protagonist – newspaper editor Kate Tregillis – as she investigates what really happened to a lifeboat that went missing off Cornwall’s wild Atlantic coast ten years ago.

St John’s College, Cambridge

While working for St John’s, I created a comprehensive editorial voice, tone and style guide for the Development Office. As Publications Officer, I commissioned and edited articles by students, staff, Fellows and alumni for the online blog, the alumni magazine Johnian and the College’s annual record The Eagle. Working remotely with authors from diverse backgrounds and professions suited my adaptable and client-tailored approach.

Cambridge School Classics Project (CSCP)

I proof read Latin and English, transcribed audio, coded website pages and wrote educational content for CSCP about Minoan Crete and Ancient Sparta.

Clare College, Cambridge

I researched, wrote and edited news stories for the College’s websites, print publications and monthly email newsletter. I was also responsible for the creation and implementation of the alumni-focused communications strategy.

  • "Anna not only offered her own creative layout ideas and excellent writing skills to push the St John's Johnian magazine forward, she also recognised the good work that had been done previously, which is the mark of a great manager in my book. Working in a collaborative and open way, Anna is a talented writer, editor and project manager, and a lovely person to boot."

  • Sophia BennettUK novelist

"I love the look of my article in the magazine, and your light editing touch. I enjoyed the whole process, and that’s rare! I also thought the whole issue was wonderful, with so many inspiring people and stories."

  • "Anna’s approach to editing the Clare College magazine was always considerate of the authenticity of her contributors and her style was appropriately judged for the publication."

  • Mark WellsUK novelist

"Anna did a wonderful job proofreading my fantasy novels. Not only did her detailed edits and constructive suggestions improve the final proofs, she also developed a Cambridge Gothic style guide for future novels in the series. Professional, dedicated and great fun to work with, I can’t recommend her too highly."

  • "Anna is a true professional. She keeps to deadlines, shows great attention to detail and her comments are always constructive, insightful and helpful. I would have no hesitation in recommending her to any writer."

  • Adam JosephUK novelist

"Anna was recommended to me by another author and she did an outstanding job proof reading my manuscript (YA fantasy). She fixed many instances of incorrect grammar and punctuation, and had a really good eye on how to reconstruct sentences to make them more immersive for the reader. On top of that, she helped me to get rid of so many redundant filler words. Now I will be recommending her to other writers!"

  • "Anna did an absolutely great job proofediting an English archaeological paper of mine. Actually, she effectively 'translated' it from my own 'something like English' to real English! Therefore, I would wholeheartedly recommend Anna to any non-native English speaker who realises that it is impossible to write a good English text without a thorough proofreading by a great professional like Anna."
